Grantmaking is the heart of Triangle Community Foundation’s mission. We distribute an average of $12 million annually to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, government entities and faith-based groups in our region and beyond.

The Foundation distributes these grants in various ways:
  1. Donor-Advised Funds – 80 percent of the Foundation’s grantmaking is made through nearly 700 donor-advised funds. These funds are established by individuals, families and corporations. Organizations cannot apply for these funds. Instead, the Foundation’s Philanthropic Services staff work with fundholders to match their philanthropic interests with community needs. Fundholders then make recommendations about where money from their funds should be granted. These grants may be of any size.

  2. Community Grantmaking Program – Through this open, competitive, discretionary process, Triangle Community Foundation provides funding to Triangle-based nonprofits with annual budgets of less than $750,000. Grants, averaging from $10,000 to $15,000, are made in the spring and fall of each year to initiatives promoting Civic Engagement and Youth Leadership & Development. Applications are available online, or you can contact Robyn Fehrman, Community Program Officer, or 919-474-8370, ext. 128.
  3. Lenovo Hope Fund Grants - The Lenovo Hope Fund is a donor-advised fund created by the Lenovo Group, a cutting-edge, global leader in the PC market headquartered in the Triangle and a well respected philanthropic company nationally and across the world. The program provides funding to nonprofits with grants of up to $10,000.  Grants are made in the spring and the fall each year and applications and guidelines are available online or you can contact Sandra Rodriguez, Donor Relations Officer or 919-474-8370, ext. 127.
  4. Durham Cerebral Palsy Foundation Fund- The Durham Cerebral Palsy Foundation Fund was established to provide assistance to children ages birth through 18 years with cerebral palsy or other neuromuscular disorders living in North Carolina.  The Fund provides grants for equipment, special one-time services or treatments, and accessibility modifications.  Grants are made in the spring and fall each year and applications and guidelines are available online or you can contact Libby Long, Scholarship and Special Projects Coordinator at 919-474-9370, ext. 134.
