If you want to be actively involved in your grantmaking, a donor-advised fund provides the greatest flexibility and convenience. You make a donation to create the fund and receive an immediate tax deduction. You stay involved by recommending grants to charitable causes you value most. Triangle Community Foundation handles the due diligence, issues the checks and provides staff assistance through a range of donor services. Your fund can be set up in three ways:
  • Permanent Endowment

The fund’s principal is invested in perpetuity and a percentage (currently 5 percent) of the fund’s value is available for distribution each year.

  • Growth Fund
The fund is invested for capital appreciation, but allows distribution of principal.

  • Pass-Through Fund
The principal is not invested and the fund anticipates principal distribution.
