Chatham County: Campbell Basketball Camp will help to build the confidence of a disabled sixth grader from Chatham County. He enjoys playing basketball but due to his physical disablity he is often self conscience. His parents, who have a history of domestic and substance abuse are trying hard to change their lifestyles to support their two children, however they are unable to afford summer camp. He is looking forward to working with college athletes to improve his skills. One week of camp will cost $400.00.
Durham County:
A rising fifth grader has been living in therapeutic foster care since 2003 due to neglect. Despite his hardships he enjoys socializing, and has quite an imagination. He is very inquisitive and thrives on discovering new things. A summer camp experience at Durham Parks and Recreation will give this adventurous boy the interaction and supervision he needs. Ten weeks of camp will cost $1,000.
Orange County: A six year old girl from Orange County has not had an opportunities to participate or join in any extra curricular activities in or out of school because she is from a severely impoverished family with six siblings. She is very social and loves playing with her peers. She is talented in art and does well in school. This summer she would like to attend Sports Plex Camp to have the opportunity to learn to swim, ice skate, and participate in arts and crafts. One week of camp costs $180.
Wake County: One week of 4-H Sleep Away Camp would bring a smile to a 12 year old girl’s face living in Wake County. This seventh grader loves animals, playing games, taking dancing lessons, and entertaining others. Both of her parents are incarcerated for drug offenses. She and her older brother have lived with their grandmother for the past four years. Family finances are limited and a camp experience would build upon her self esteem as a budding pre-teen. One week of camp costs approximately $335.
