Triangle Community Foundation Announces Spring 2009 Grant Recipients
Now Accepting Proposal Applications for Fall 2009 Cycle

Durham, N.C. (June 26, 2009) – Triangle Community Foundation announced the recipients of its Community Grantmaking Program for the Spring 2009 cycle. Over $160,000 will be divided among 13 nonprofit organizations chosen by the program’s selection committee, with an average grant size of $12,400.
There were six grants made in the area of youth leadership and development and seven grants made in the area of civic engagement to organizations in Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties. In total, 86 nonprofit organizations submitted proposals for consideration.in the fifth cycle of this open, competitive grantmaking program.
“This program provides an opportunity for the Foundation to bolster the work of selected nonprofits that are effectively addressing community needs,” noted Andrea Bazán, Triangle Community Foundation President. “We are proud to sponsor this program, which allows us to extend our impact on the community at-large, and extremely proud to support these successful organizations.”

The spring 2009 Community Grantmaking Program recipients are:
Youth Leadership & Development
• Budo Karate House ($15,000)
• Communities In Schools of Wake County ($15,000)
• Durham PROUD Program ($15,000)
• The Hispanic Liaison / El Vinculo Hispano ($12,400)
• The Justice Theater Project ($10,000)
• Literacy Council of Wake County ($15,000)

Civic Engagement
• Clean Energy Durham ($10,000)
• Common Cause NC Education Fund ($10,000)
• Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation ($14,250)
• Project Compassion ($10,000)
• Southern Coalition for Social Justice ($10,000)
• Student Action with Farmworkers ($10,000)
• Triangle Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods (CAN) ($14,250)

Fall 2009 Cycle Now Open
Triangle Community Foundation is now accepting proposal applications for the fall 2009 cycle of our Community Grantmaking Program.  Applications, guidelines, proposal scoring rubrics, and additional background information are available on the Foundation’s Web site at: http://www.trianglecf.org/page33708.cfm
Completed applications are due via email on August 15 by 5 pm.  Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.  Funding decisions will be announced by December 18.  Funding will be available by December 31 to be spent January 2010-December 2010. Average grant size will be $10,000 - $15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Triangle Community Foundation’s Community Grantmaking Program focuses funding in two areas: Civic Engagement and Youth Leadership & Development. The program is open to 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizations, religious congregations, and governmental entities that are based in the Triangle (Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties) and have a total annual organizational budget of $750,000 or less.
Organizations that received Community Grantmaking Program funding in fall 2008 are eligible to reapply for funding.  However, these organizations must submit an interim report using the Foundation’s Grantee Report Form along with their Proposal Application. Interim reports are due with the completed proposal by August 15. Grantee Report forms can be found on the Foundation’s website at: http://www.trianglecf.org/page33710.cfm
Information Sessions
The Foundation will host two brief information sessions via conference call on: 
• Thursday, July 9, 3-4 pm
• Friday, July 10, 10-11 am
