Triangle Community Foundation announces increase to budget cap for
Community Grantmaking Program applications
Fall 2010 cycle now open; Spring 2010 Grant Recipients Announced

Durham, N.C (July 26, 2010).  – Triangle Community Foundation announced today that it is increasing the budget cap for its Community Grantmaking Program from $750,000 to $1,500,000. Now in its fourth year, the program makes grants in the areas of Youth Leadership & Development and Civic Engagement to nonprofit entities in Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties.

“Extending the budget cap to $1.5 million will allow us to consider additional organizations that are doing exemplary work in the Triangle,” said Andrea Bazán, Triangle Community Foundation President. “We are excited that this additional funding opportunity will help more nonprofits increase their reach and address a broader range of community needs.”

The Foundation also announced the recipients of its Community Grantmaking Program for the Spring 2010 cycle. Over $207,000 will be divided among 16 nonprofit organizations chosen by the program’s selection committee, with an average grant size of $13,200.

There were seven grants made in the area of youth leadership and development and nine grants made in the area of civic engagement. In total, 78 nonprofit organizations submitted proposals for consideration in the seventh cycle of this open, competitive grantmaking program.

• Literacy Council of Wake County ($15,000)

• NC Psychoanalytic Foundation ($15,000)

Civic Engagement
• Chatham County Literacy Council ($7,010)
• NC Center for Voter Education ($10,000)
• Project Compassion ($10,000)
• Scrap Exchange ($14,800)
• Clean Energy Durham ($10,000)
• Student Action with Farmworkers ($15,000)
• Haw River Assembly ($11,850)
• Institute for Southern Studies ($14,350)
• Southeast Regional Economic Justice Network ($15,000)

Fall 2010 Cycle Now Open
Triangle Community Foundation is now accepting proposal applications for the fall 2010 cycle of our Community Grantmaking Program.  Applications, guidelines, proposal scoring rubrics, and additional background information are available on the Foundation’s Web site at: http://www.trianglecf.org/grants_support/community_grantmaking_program/

Completed applications are due via email on August 15 by 5 pm.  Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.  Funding decisions will be announced by December 20.  Funding will be available by December 31 to be spent January 2011-December 2011. Average grant size will be $10,000 - $15,000.

Eligibility Criteria
Triangle Community Foundation’s Community Grantmaking Program focuses funding in two areas: Civic Engagement and Youth Leadership & Development. The program is open to 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizations, religious congregations, and governmental entities that are based in the Triangle (Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties) and (2) have a total annual organizational budget of $1,500,000 or less.  Please note that this budget cap has been increased from previous grantmaking cycles.

Organizations that received Community Grantmaking Program funding in fall 2009 are eligible reapply for funding.  However, these organizations must submit an interim report using the Foundation’s Grantee Report Form along with their Proposal Application. Interim reports are due with the completed proposal by August 15. Grantee Report forms can be found here on the Foundation’s website.
