More than $1,000,000 distributed since 2007 inception of Community Grantmaking Program

Durham, N.C. (January 4, 2010) – Triangle Community Foundation announced the recipients of its Community Grantmaking Program for Fall 2009. This cycle the foundation made grants to 14 organizations totaling $176,000. There were eight grants made in the area of youth leadership and development and six grants made in the area of civic engagement to organizations in Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties. In total, 71 nonprofit organizations submitted proposals for consideration in the sixth cycle of this open, competitive grantmaking program.

“Since the Community Grantmaking Program began in 2007, we have distributed more than $1,000,000 in grants to support the work of successful nonprofits,” said Andrea Bazán, president of Triangle Community Foundation. “We are proud of the impact this program is having on the community and extremely proud to support these deserving organizations.”

The fall 2009 Community Grantmaking Program recipients are:

Covenant with North Carolina’s Children Education Fund ($15,000)

Equality NC Foundation ($15,000)

NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation ($15,000)

Spring 2010 Cycle Now Open
Triangle Community Foundation is now accepting proposal applications for the Spring 2010 cycle of our Community Grantmaking Program. Applications, guidelines, proposal scoring rubrics, and additional background information are available on the Foundation’s Web site at: http://www.trianglecf.org/grants_support/community_grantmaking_program/

Information Sessions
The Foundation will host two brief information sessions via conference call on:
• Tuesday, January 12, 9:30 – 10:30 am
• Wednesday, January 13, 3:00 – 4:00 pm

Completed applications are due via email on February 15, 2010 by 5:00 pm. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. Funding decisions will be announced by June 30. Funding will be available by July 31 to be spent January 2011-December 2011 Average grant size will be $10,000 - $15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Triangle Community Foundation’s Community Grantmaking Program focuses funding in two areas: Civic Engagement and Youth Leadership & Development. The program is open to 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizations, religious congregations, and governmental entities that are based in the Triangle (Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties) and have a total annual organizational budget of $750,000 or less.

Triangle Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that manages $120 million in funds established by individuals, businesses and families. From these funds, we give grants to nonprofit organizations and administer a variety of programs for the community’s benefit. The Foundation currently manages over 740 funds, ranging in size from $10,000 to $10 million, primarily for the benefit of Wake, Durham, Orange and Chatham counties. During the 2008-09 fiscal year, the Foundation granted more than $15 million to nonprofits, schools and community efforts. On average, we distribute more than 10% of our assets each year, raising the total value of grants made since the Foundation’s inception in 1983 to nearly $144 million.
