Meredith College to Host ¡Levantate, North Carolina!
in Celebration of Andrea Bazán

Meredith College, Raleigh, N.C. (July 27, 2009) —Meredith College will host ¡Levantate, North Carolina!, an evening to celebrate Andrea Bazán, on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Meredith College is recognizing Bazán for her efforts to ensure that all North Carolina residents – regardless of their background or circumstances – have access to basic services, health care, and higher education.
Former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt will be the keynote speaker and WRAL-TV anchor Pam Saulsby will serve as master of ceremonies at the event. Other speakers will include Center for New North Carolinians Director Nolo Martinez, Meredith College President Maureen Hartford, Meredith alumna Nayely Perez Huerta Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina President and CEO Robert J. Greczyn, Jr. and Andrea Bazán,
Bazán is president of Triangle Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization with assets of over $130 million. She has had a career in state government, academia and the non-profit sector. She was executive director of El Pueblo, a Latino advocacy and public policy organization, and a lobbyist at the NC General Assembly for several years. Bazán serves as a mentor to many young students and is a frequent speaker at local and national events.
Bazán serves on the board of the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights organization, including a term as chair. She sits on the Leadership Council of Hispanics in Philanthropy and on the boards of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, American Jewish Committee Latino Jewish Working Group, Women’s Forum of North Carolina, Friends of the Nasher Museum, and Wachovia Bank, A Wells Fargo Company in Raleigh. She was recently appointed to the Department of Homeland Security’s Southwest Border Taskforce.
