Purpose

The Mial Williamson Award is a one-time grant to a deserving graduating senior who embodies the spirit and character of Mial Williamson, a member of the class of 1949. During Mial’s years at Broughton he served the school energetically. Among other activities he was president of the Student Council and co-captain of the basketball team.

Criteria

1. Service to Broughton - The applicant’s record of involvement in extracurricular activities especially those which exhibit leadership and increase Broughton’s reputation for excellence.

2. Character & Citizenship - The level of involvement in community activities especially those revealing the applicant’s character and awareness of his/her fellow man. After-school employment is considered in this category.

3. Scholarship - The applicant’s scholastic ability as evidenced by his/her (i) grade point average, (ii) class rank, and (iii) performance on the SAT and/or ACT.

Due to Mial’s love of sports, a primary qualification for this award is the student’s involvement in athletics.
