Proposal Guidelines

We accept Community Grantmaking Program proposals from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, government entities and faith-based groups based in Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties.  Applicant organizations must have a total annual organizational budget of $1,500,000 or less. Proposals must be focused on either civic engagement or youth leadership & development.  For more details please refer to the following documents: Proposal Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions

Application Documents

Proposals for the Community Grantmaking Program can be downloaded and submitted HERE.  Organizations must use the Community Grantmaking Program application form. Additional supporting materials, such as letters of support, will not be accepted.

Application Deadlines and Funding Timeline

We distribute Community Grantmaking Program grants twice each year.

Spring Grantmaking Cycle - Proposals for the spring grantmaking cycle are due to the Foundation via email by 5 p.m. on February 15.  Funding decisions will be announced by June 30.  Funding will be available by July 31.

Fall Grantmaking Cycle - Proposals for the fall grantmaking cycle are due to the Foundation via email by 5 p.m. on August 15.  Funding decisions will be announced by December 30. Funding will be available by December 31.

Proposal Review Criteria

In reviewing proposals, the Foundation evaluates four criteria: (1) organization, (2) community need, (3) feasibility and impact and (4) focus area. Proposals are scored according to this rubric.

Community Grantmaking Program Committee

A committee of Foundation fundholders and Board of Directors members works with Foundation staff to evaluate proposals, conduct site visits and make funding decisions.
