Director of Communications Kelly Mauldin Harrell provides public and media relations support for the Foundation and manages all publications, in-house writing needs, and web development. As a member of the management team, she is responsible for the Foundation’s annual communications plan, ensuring that it is coordinated with all other key Foundation program areas.
A native of Charlotte, Kelly moved to New York after receiving her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in journalism and radio/television/motion pictures. Her work experience in New York included stints at the ABC television network, the international art auction house Sotheby Parke Bernet, and the talent agency International Creative Management, where she served as the agency’s in-house reader to determine if literary properties were adaptable for television or film. Kelly moved back to the Chapel Hill area to raise a family and began work as a freelance writer. Most recently, she served as a public affairs associate with the University of North Carolina General Administration. During her eight years at UNC GA, she worked as marketing liaison and copywriter for both College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) and GEAR UP North Carolina, and directed an annual 3-day event, the North Carolina College Access Conference. She is a longtime resident of Durham and is delighted to witness its renaissance as a hub for foodies and entrepreneurs.
